Fan Fest is an activist festival that takes place every year in Rosia Montana, Romania. This is no festival like any other, as it is organised by volunteers. The festival started in 2004 due to Save Rosia Montana campaign which is one of the largest anti mining campaigns that has run in Romania for the last years.
The Save Rosia Montana campaign aims to protect the area from exploitation, as the project is believed to cause cyanide pollution of waters and significant environmental damage. this campaign has received the support of Greenpeace and also the Romanian Academy.
The festival which will take place between 11th and 17th of August will bring together concerts, theatre acts, debates and exhibitions. Participants will be able to also buy products from the farmers market, entertain their children in the Children’s Area with juggling and puppetry, participate in organised hikes and walks and also learn about activism.
Organisers expect this year the number of visitors to be between 5-15,000.
