Romanian becomes mayor of village in Spain

imageAurel Truta, 39, has become the mayor of Paramo de Boedo, a tiny Spanish village of only 100 inhabitants. Truta has left Romania 15 years ago like many other immigrants looking for a better life. Since then, he has worked in agriculture, constructions and restaurant industry.

Before the elections the local political party proposed him to be a candidate for the mayor position and he accepted. According to Truta said ” I did not organize a campaign, but instead I chose to talk to the people from the village.” He acknowledged that the image of Romanians in Palencia region is a good one because people interact more with each other and socialize and there is less prejudice.

The mayor plans in the future to reorganize the village water system and the children parks.
