His lifestory is unusual, as at the young age of two, he was already capable of reading and at age four he was speaking English fluently. Under his grandfather guidance, he started taking piano lessons at the age of three and at 8 he was already attending the Bucharest Highschool of Music and was already composing classical music.
He is the youngest Romanian musician to ever play on the Ateneum stage. He has written over 40 piano, orchestra and choir compositions, which have been interpreted by over 50 prestigious international artists. He has also established and launched a chamber orchestra called Cammerata and produced three CDs for solo piano. Matei Bucur Mihaescu has received several international prizes, including an offer to study at the prestigious Viena conservatory, however he has chosen to stay in Romania.
