On 16 December, between 01.00 p.pm and 03.00 p.m at Gara de Nord (Northern trainstation) in Bucharest, volunteers from Great Britain embassy and the United states embassy, the University of Sociology and Social assitance from Bucharest and Intercontinental hotel together with Casa Ioana Association will be serving a hot meal to homeless people from Bucharest and will also give away gift packs with clothes and food.
The even is supported by the Bucharest General direction of Social Assistance. The 300 hot plates are offered and prepared by Intercontinental hotel. Other companies and individuals have also donated money and other things needed to help homeless people.
According to romaniapozitiva.ro there are officially around 5,000 homeless individuals in Bucharest, however the real number could be much higher. A part of them have jobs in spite of the fact that they leave on the streets, however because they work on part time jobs or in very low paid jobs, they cannot afford housing.
