Roxana Maria Chiorean, a highschool student from Cluj-Napoca has won the European translator competition called “Juvenes Translatores”, organised by the European commission. The competition gathered around 3,000 students from the European Union and 28 of them have been awarded, each from every country.
Roxana Maria Chiorean, from the Emil Racovita national college has translated fom English to Romanian. According to hotnews.ro she has competed with 151 students from 31 Romanian schools.
The theme of the translation competition was cooperation for developing and students were free to chose from the 24 official languages of the Union.
The European commission organizes the competition every year with the purpose of promoting foreign language learning in schools and to give a chance to students to experience a translators job. Students over 17 years of age are allowed to enter the competition. Last year’s winner was Maria Flavia Tohaneanu from Carol I national college, Craiova.
