A new World Record for 12 year old Romanian climber


She is only 12 years old, but she has already reached  Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Western hemisphere. Her name is Dor Geta Popescu and Saturday, 6th of February she became the youngest person to climb this mountain.

Aconcagua is 6960 metres high and it is considered the highest in South America. According to Adevarul, Dor Geta Popescu said ” An excellent mountain, a perfect ascension. I walked in a good pace, even though I was the youngest in the group. I reached the peak and I established a new world record for this age group. Under me there was a sea of mountain peaks, only mountains on the horizon”.

This is not the first time Geta has established a world record, as in 8 December 2015 she reached Ojos del Salado, the highest volcano in the world. The volcano is 6893 metres altitude and is situated in the Andes,on the Argentina-Chile border. Geta won her first world record in 2013, when she was only 10. Then, she climbed the Ararat mountain, which is 5,137 metres high, at age 11 she reached the Sabalan peak, 4,811 metres and Damavand peak, which is 5671 metres. She is now planing to finalise the 7 Volcanoes circuit and the 7 Summits circuit until her 14th birtday.
