Suceava city was voted as a winning destination of the Eden competition, the European Destinations of Excellence for 2017.
The Ministry of Tourism has designated the European Destinations of Excellence in Romania this year. The winning destinations are: Suceava- first place, Tara Chioarului- second place, Sighetu Marmatiei- 3rd place, Colinele Transilvaniei- fourth place, Scheii Brasovului and Brasovechi- fifth place.
The 5 destinations are now included in the EDEN destinations at a national and European level. Suceava will also participate at the premiere festivity in Bruxelles and it will be also promoted on the edenineurope.eu on a special page.
At the autumn tourism fair in Romania which will be organized in November 2017 at Romexpo the 5 destinations will have a special presentation stand at the Tourism Ministry stand. The 5 destinations will also receive diplomas.
The EDEN project was first launched in 2006 by the European Commission and its purpose is to develop tourism and to encourage tourists to go to non-traditional holiday destinations. Thus, each country organizes a competition that designates the excellence destination.
Romania has participated in this competition since 2008 when the first place was taken by Depresiunea Horezu , in 2009 the Apuseni National park, in 2010 the Geoagiu spa, 2012 the Buzau county, 2012 Alba Iulia city, in 2013 Jurilovca.
