Gold for the Romanian team at the International Astrophysics Olympiad

The Romanian team has won six gold medals at the International Astrophysics Olympiad which was organised in Suceava, Romania, between 1st-11th of August, 2014. Second place was taken by Iran, which won four gold medals, Singapore with two medals and Serbia and India with one medal. Denis Turcu has won the best score and the best prize at the observational category. According to Mediafax, Tudor Costel Cretu and Iustina Craciun, Paul Andrei Draghis, Andrei Cuceu and Andrei Raduc are the Romanian competitors that have also won the gold. Another four silver medals have been also won by the Romanian team. The competition this year has tested the competitiors’ knowledge but also the ability to observe stars with the aid of the telescope and to analyse astronomical data. The Olympiad has brought together around 200 students from 37 countries.
