The Greek community in Constanta city is preparing a public show in a bid to break the world record for the largest gathering of people dancing Sirtaki. Sirtaki is a traditional Greek dance which was created in 1964 by Giorgos Provias, on music by Mikis Theodorakis for the famous movie Zorba, the Greek.

Anton Antoniadis, the organizer of the event said that  the event wants to link Constanta with the world record, because Constanta is one of the oldest cities in Romania and it was established by the Greek settlers in 657 BC.  According to AGERPRES, Anton Antoniadis said:

” We have started to make arrangements for breaking the world record for the largest number of Sirtaki dancers and we have the support of the Elpis community, with its 1,800 members and other 1,200 subscribed supporters. Also my colleagues from other 23 local communities from across the country that are members of the Greek Union in Romania ensured me they will participate”

The previous world record was established in 2012 in Volos, Greece when 5,614 people danced the Sirtaki.
