Romanian movies to be celebrated at special event in London

Romanian movies are set to be celebrated in London, thanks to ICR London and the British Film Institute. The organizations  prepared a series of Romanian movies under the name of ” Revolution in Realism” at the British Film Institute.

There will be two months of Romanian movies, special meet ups with film producers, critics, movie promoters and debates about the Romanian cinema industry. Apart from showing movies, there will also be debates about the new Romanian cinema with guest critics Andrei Gorzo, Dominique Nasta, Geoff Andrew and Nick Roddick.

On June 7 the movie ” Aferim!” by Radu Jude will be shown. The movie has won a Golden Bear award for best director at the Berlin movie festival in 2015. A special meeting with the public will be organized with Teodor Corban, the actor playing the main role in the film, and also with the script writer, Florin Lazarescu. The event will end with a special reception organized by the Romanian embassy in UK.

 

On June 8 Geoff Andrew will held a conference on the theme of the realist current in Romanian cinema. On June 6 there will also be a ” Freeze Frame” photo exhibit by Silviu Ghetie. The exhibit will contain photos taken on movie sets. The event will be held at the BFI Southbank in London.
