Romanian writer Mircea Cartarescu has won the Gregor von Rezzori award at the Writer’s Festival in Florence. The literary prize was given for the best foreign fiction book written in Italian.
The competition took place between June 6-8 in Florence, Tuscany. The Romanian writer received the award for his novel ” The body” which is a part of the “Orbitor” trilogy .
The jury chaired by Ernesto Ferrero has praised Mircea Cartarescu and the translator of the book, Bruno Mazzoni and the publishing house for publishing a Romanian author. The other writers who were nominated for the award were Dany Laferrier, Yiyun Li, Dinaw Mengestu and Lorrie Moore. Last year’s winner was Vladimir Sorokin. for his book ” Day of the Oprichnik”.
Mircea Cartarescu also received the International Literature Award presented by the Berlin-based House of the Cultures of the World.
