Gold and silver medals for Romania at the European fencing championships


Simona Gherman has won the gold medal at the European Fencing championships in Torun, Poland. Gherman has defeated her own colleague, Ana Maria Popescu at the individual fencing category with a score of 9-5.

Previously, Simona Gherman has defeated Jospehine Coquin, France with 13-12, Irina Embrich  with 15-11 and Julia Beljajeva, with 15-12 from Estonia, Monika Sozanska, 13-10, from Germany and in semifinals she beat Renata Knapik-Miazga, 15-12 from Poland.

Ana Maria Popescu, who won the silver, has managed to beat Aleksandra Zamachowska, 15-13, from Poland, Kristina Kuusk (15-7) from Estonia, Iana Semiakina, 15-9, from Ukraine, Simona Pop, 15-9, Romania and in the semifinals she beat Emese Szasz, Hungary with a score of 13-12.

This is the second European title at this category for Simona Gherman and this is her 7th gold medal. She has won before at the European championships in 2012.
