A start-up team of students from Romania has won the AT&T Excellence in IT Award’ at the JA Europe Company of the Year. 200 students from 35 countries have participated. The competition has awarded companies that innovate and use IT in a creative way, companies that have a long-term vision and have sustainable objectives for developing a business.
The Romanian start-up team, called Oculus has presented a concept based on innovation. They have created intelligent glasses that help people with vision deficiency be more independent.
The Romanian team has participated in the JA Compania programme and competed with other 36 teams. The programme gives them the opportunity of initiating and run a real business, it teaches them how to work in a team, analyse the needs of the customers.
The competitors were mentored by volunteer business consultants. This way students were able to learn how to do things in real life, as schools only teach theories. Last year 313,000 students from 40 countries have participated in the JA Compania programme.
