Over 500 people have participated this weekend at the Union cross this weekend at the Alba Carolina citadel in Alba Iulia.
Among the runners there was also an elderly couple, both of 82 years of age, that ran the whole 2,7 kilometres while holding hands. They have been together for 56 years and they both worked for the national railways.
Emil Sufletel ran with his wife, Margareta holding hands because he wanted her to feel safe and because she always wants to be with him in all competitions.
He stated
We have been running together for five years since she had a stroke. It is very good to run together. I could run faster but I am thinking about her, so she can participate, I have to run like her. I am very happy that she agreed to run with me. Now she has some issues with her knees due to the weather I think. We run for physical, psychological and mental health and everything that you want and we want to be an example for young people who should love sports.
Emil Sufletel stated that he has already participated in 20 competitions and he trains every day by walking with his wife for 5 kilometres.
The competition has brought runners from all over the country and the best 100 runners were awarded on age categories. The competition has reached its 48 edition and its purpose is to celebrate the Grand Union from 1918 and to celebrate National Day of Romania.
