“Toni Erdmann” movie that was directed by Maren Ade and produced by Ada Solomon Hi Film-Romania was nominated for the Oscars, foreign movies category.
The movie, which was filmed in Bucharest tells the story of a father who travels from Germany to Romania to surprise his daughter. His daughter, Ines works in a corporation in a very important position. His father tries to make jokes all the time but he ends up annoying his daughter. Thus, the father decides to go back to Germany. However, he decides to go undercover under the name of Winifried and pretends to be Ines’ life coach.
The movie has had over 700,000 viewers in Germany and 500,000 viewers in France. “Toni Erdmann” has won previously the FIPRESCI award at the Cannes Film Festival and has been the favorite of the critics for the Palme D’Or trophy.
This is the first time a Romanian production is nominated for the Oscars.
The movie had a German and Romanian cast. Actors Peter Simonischek, Sandra Hüller, Michael Wittenborn, Thomas Loibl, Trystan Pütter, Hadewych Minis, Lucy Russell played along Romanian actors Vlad Ivanov, Ingrid Bisu, Alexandru Papadopol and Victoria Cociaş.
