Romania has participated in this year’s Winter Special Olympics in Austria with success. 15 sportsmen have managed to secure 21 medals.
They have participated in ski, artistic skating and snowshoeing. Two participants have also been part of the team for promoting sports for individuals with mental disabilities.
In total Romanians have won 4 gold medals, 6 silver ones, and 11 bronze ones.
The winners are:
Alexandru Marinesc from Bucharest has won two gold medals for snow running.
Theodor Bucur from Bucharest has won a gold and silver medal for snow running and Iulian Coltor from Alba-Iulia has won a gold and silver medal for snow running.
Debora Radu from Timisoara has won a silver medal at the artistic skating competition and Maria Mosoiu from Brasov has won a silver and bronze medal for snow running.
Viorel Tataru from Ilfov has won a silver and bronze medal at the ski competition. Mara Oprea from Arad has won a bronze medal for snow running and Oana Negrea from Resita has won a bronze medal for snow running. Nicoleta Stan from Bucharest has won two bronze medals at the ski competition. Denisa Iliescu from Bucharest has won two bronze medals at the ski competition and Andrei Cupsa from Baia Mare has secured the bronze at the ski competition as well. Finally, Marian Ionit from Bucharest has won a silver and bronze medal at the ski competition and Codru Moldoveanu has also secured the silver medal at the ski competition.
Florin Pelin, professor at the Physical Education and Sports University has stated that the competitors have made us proud by their will to win medals in spite of their disabilities.
2700 sportsmen from 107 countries have competed in this year’s special Olympics which took place in Austria.
