Brancusi sculpture sells for 57.36 million dollars

The famous Sleeping Muse sculpture was sold yesterday for the sum of 57.36 million dollars. Constantin Brancusi’s sculpture was auctioned yesterday at the Christie’s Impressionist and Modern Art Evening Sale in New York and it took only 9 minutes of heavy bidding between five bidders.

The sculpture was estimated to be sold for 20-30 million dollars and it belongs to the Jacques Ulmann collection, who bought it in the 1950’s. A former famous sculpture of the artist, Portrait de Madame LR was sold for 37.6 million dollars in 2009 at a Paris auction.

The sculpture was created in 1909 and Brancusi has also created anothr 6 versions of it in the next 4 years. Two of them are on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and at the Art Institute of Chicago. Another two versions can be visited in paris, at the Musee National d’Ar and at the Cetrne Georges Pompidou.
