World Happiness Report: Romania is a happier country than last year

Romanians seem to have become happier than in recent years, according to a recent survey. The 2017 World Happiness Report has put Romania on place number 57. The survey was done in 155 countries.

Compared to 2016 Romania was on the 71st place and on place 86 in 2015. Now the country seems to have become happier and has received a score of 5.825.

Romanians have placed much better than their neighbors, Hungary was placed on the 75th place and Bulgaria on the 105th place. As well the countries that are happier than Romania is Moldova, which was situated on 55th place, Italy for 48thplace, Poland on the 46th place and the Czech Republic on the 23rd place.

The happiest countries in the world, as we are used to hearing from other reports, are the same northern countries such as Norway, 1st place, Denmark, Iceland, Switzerland, Finland, Netherlands, Canada, New Zeeland, Australia, and Sweeden.

The least happy countries are located in Africa- Central African Republic, Burundi, and Tanzania.

The report says

However 80% of the variance of happiness across the world occurs within countries. In richer countries the within-country differences are not mainly explained by income inequality, but by differences in mental health, physical health and personal relationships: the biggest single source of misery is mental illness. Income differences matter more in poorer countries, but even their mental illness is a major source of misery.

Work is also a major factor affecting happiness. Unemployment causes a major fall in happiness, and even for those in work the quality of work can cause major variations in happiness.
