Stela Damaschin Popa, Irina Dobrescu, and Veronica Neacsu have been nominated for the 2018 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. The three illustrators are competing with another 235 candidates from 60 countries.
The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award is the largest children’s literature award in the world. The Romanian illustrators will compete with other talented professionals from Iceland, Palestine, the US, Germany, China, Argentina, Zambia, the United Kingdom and Canada. This year there are new countries that have entered the competition such as Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Antigua and Barbuda. Most nominees this year come from Great Britain.
Last year, Wolf Erlbruch from Germany has won the award. The award will be given only for works of highest quality that respect the humanistic values of Astrid Lindgren.
The winners will be known next year in March.
