Mihai Tampeanu, a police officer from Galati has won the gold medal at the World Fudokan Karate championships.
The competition was held in Cluj last week.
Mihai has won the seniors individual kata category. He not only won the gold medal but he also managed to secure another two silver medals at the masculine enbu category and the mixt enbu category.
He also won a bronze medal in the kata category- seniors male team.
Mihai noted that he has trained many hours and he had difficult moments which he managed to overcome successfully. Mihai has been competing for over 20 years. He is 30 years old, is married and has a 2 year-old child.
Over 2,000 sportsmen form 40 countries fought for 900 medals this year in Cluj. In the three days of competition, sportsmens had to go through 480 organized fights on 12 tatami surfaces. To win a medal each fighter had to win 32 confrontations. The competition organizers are also collecting funds to help 14 abandoned children to have a house, clothes, and education.
