American photographer uses Facebook to track down Romanian couple after 37 years

Thousands of people have shared online the photographs of a young bride and groom which were taken 37 years ago by a photographer.

In 1981 Matt, an American man visited Bucharest and Stavropoleos Church has photographed a couple that was getting married at the church. The couple has invited the man to their wedding ceremony. There he took several photos of the bride and the groom and he promised the newlyweds to send them the photos. However, Matt has lost their address and he was not able to find them anymore.

After 37 years, the photographer’s sister, Susan Hills Goldman has decided to help his brother find the couple through Facebook. She said:

My brother just came upon these 36 year old pictures from 1981 the other night. We are reaching out in every way we can think of to try to find someone who recognizes the couple (or anyone in these pictures) because my brother would love to forward these pictures to them! Matt doesn’t want money or anything else-he only wants to send the pictures to the family!

Luckily, a relative has noticed the photos and has contacted Alex, the son of the married couple. Susan said on her Facebook page:

I am overwhelmed with gratitude for every person who viewed, liked, and shared the post (as of now 1295 shares!!) and pictures to help us find the beautiful bride and groom! We are so thrilled that they’ve been located and will get their wedding pictures shortly.

Special thanks to every single person in Romania that responded, offering not only suggestions but also to personally go to the church to try to solve the mystery. Talk about a feel-good story – and to make things even better, today is the bride’s birthday!
