For the first time in history, four Romanians have managed to row across the Atlantic ocean. The team has arrived at its destination on January 22 in Antigua.
The team formed of Vasile Osean, Andrei Rosu, Ionut Olteanu and Marius Alexe have sailed 4,887 kilometers in 38 days, 14 hours and 32 minutes. Their families and friends waited for them with flags and torches. Andrei Rosu said that it was the best organized competition in which he participated.
Vasile Osean, the captain of the team said that the last week of the competition was rough and the weather was against them. They said they put a lot of effort every time they rowed. Vasile Osean said
I feel that by crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat I managed to offer an example of how you should be in life to the most important person in my life: my son.
Atlantic 4 has finished the competition on the 12th place in the overall challenge, and on the 9th place in the rowing category. From 26 boats, 5 have given up on the competition. The last boat in the competition was Atlantic Ladies. The organizers anticipate that the competition will finish on February 20. Overall the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is considered the toughest rowing competition in the world. A new world record for crossing the Atlantic Ocean was set up for 29 days, 14 hours and 34 minutes.
