A young Romanian ballerina has been awarded at the Olivier Awards in London on Sunday. Francesca Velicu was awarded for exceptional results in dance.
The awards are given for personalities in the theatre industry in the UK. The Gala was presented by Catherine Tate and it took place at the Royal Albert Hall. The awards are the British version of the US theatre awards called the Tony awards. Prizes are given each year not only for theatre actors but also for ballet and opera performances.
Francesca has received exceptional results for Outstanding achievement in dance for her performance in Le Sacre du Printemps. The show was created by choreographer Pina Bausch and performed by the English National Ballet. Francesca Velicu is from Bucharest and she has studied ballet at the Floria Capsali highschool in Bucharest and then at the Bolshoi Balet Academy in Moscow. She has been dancing for the English National Ballet in London since 2016.
