Nadia Comaneci is the most well known Romanian gymnast in the world. However, there are many other Romanian gymnasts that have made a name for themselves. Andreea Raducan, an Olympic, European and world medalist has now been included in the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
Andreea Raducan is from Barlad and is currently 34 years old. She has won many competitions and she has secured many gold medals at the World Championships in Tianjin in 1999 and the World Championships in Gent (2001) and the Olympic games in Sydney in 2000 as well as the gold medal in the floor exercise in 1999 and 2001 and the balance beam.
She has retired from gymnastics in 2002 and she has graduated from the Physics and Sports University in Timisoara. She was honored with the Sports Emerit Maestru award in 2000, the Sportswoman of the year in 2000 and the First Class Sports Order in 2008.
In 2010 she has published an autobiography called the ” The Other Side of the medal” and since 2012 she has been working for the Romanian Olympiad Foundation. This year she has been included in the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame and the ceremony has taken place last weekend in Oklahoma. The Hall of Fame includes Octavian Bellu, Simona Amanar, Teodora Ungureanu, Ecaterina Szabo and Nadia Comaneci.
