Romanian chess team wins gold and silver medals at the International Chess competition in Germany

Although chess is not as popular as it used to be in the past, Romanian students are still interested in the sport and are still participating in competitions.

Recently the junior male team has won the gold medal and the girl’s team has won the silver medal. Sorin-Avram Iacoban noted that this is a historical performance because this is the first time we have won such important awards at European level. He also stated that the students have worked hard and they have participated in many other competitions to reach such a level.  Iacoban noted

I am proud of them, they are an example and I will certainly support them in the future. I would also like to thank the coaches that trained these minds.

The competition took place in Bad Blankenburg in Germany between July 11-19. The team was formed of Ducu Gavrilescu, 15 years, George Stoleriu, 16, Victoriu Vasiesiu and Alexandru Banzea, 17 years old. The girls’ team was formed of Miruna Lehaci and Alesia Ciolacu, both 14 years old.
