Romania has brought home silver and bronze medals from the International Earth Science Olympiad. The Olympiad took place in Kuanchanaburi, Thailand this year.
Around 154 students from 38 countries have participated in this competition. The students have had to pass a theoretical and a practical exam. The students, however, do not compete against themselves only. They are also encouraged to collaborate. This means international teams were created. The teams have receives diverse research themes in relation to the pollution of the environment in a certain area. The teams had to come up with a project that offers a solution to improve the area.
Romanian students have thus won the silver medal and the bronze medals. Alexandru Slavoia from the Emanuil Gojdu national college in Oradea has won the silver and three students: Florian- Chiriac Calina ( from Fratii Buzesti national college, Craiova), Andrei-Mircea Lupuleasa ( Iasi National college) and Andrei Marin ( Tudor Vianu IT national college, Bucharest) have won the bronze medals.
