Radu Paltineanu, the first Romanian to cycle across North and South America has reached the ” End of the World”

The first Romanian to cross the American continents by bike has reached the end of the world, in Ushuaia after 3 years, 2 months and 17 days.

Radu Paltineanu has crossed Alaska, USA and several South American countries such as Argentina. In total, he has cycled over 34,500 kilometers. He started his trip in August 5th 2015 and ended it in October 22, 2018.

He was very excited when he reached Ushuaia and he said on Facebook:

Ladies and gentlemen, I have succeeded! Today at 21,51 o’clock I have reached Ushuaia, the end of my American trip, thus uniting the two extremes of Americas, on bike. To be precise, I have reached Ushuaia, the north of Alaska, in the south of the Fire country, the first Romanian trip of this kind. I finish this trip with 34,554 cycled kilometres and another 4,100 sailed on the Amazon river, kilometres that have taken me trough all the countries and contents of North and South America: Alaska, Canada, USA< Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador – Honduras – Nicaragua – Costa Rica – Panama – Columbia – Venezuela – Brazilia – Guyana – Surinam – French Guyane – Peru – Ecuador – Bolivia – Argentina – Paraguay – Uruguay and Chile.

 

Paltineanu has cycled through the Chihuahua desert and he has also climbed the Orizaba volcano in North America and has also been in the jungles of Mexico and Guatemala. Originally, Radu wanted to only travel through 14 countries and to cycle 24,000 kilometers for 9 months but then he changed his plans.

Radu asked for accommodation in a small village in Mexico and the police offered him a bed in a cell.

He noted that this trip has influenced him culturally as many people with big hearts have welcomed him in their homes. He only had 1,000 dollars and a flag when he left his home. Radu Paltineanu is a software engineer and he has emigrated to Canada when he was a child. His family is from Piatra Neamt.

Paltineanu says he prefers to have this happy life of traveling. He noted that he only has 4 bags and he is much happier. He prefers to have a life based on experiences and not on material life, like other people. While on his trip, he slept in tents, hotels, post offices, churches, and even police station.
