Adrian Ghenie’s paintings sell for over 2 million pounds

In the last few years Adrian Ghenie has made a name of himself, selling many paintings at fabulous prices. The young painter has sold several of its creations for millions, such as Self Portrait as Charles Darwin for 3,252,000 pounds, The Hunted for 1,865,000 pounds and Self Portrait as Vincent Van Gogh for 2,590,000 dollars.

Adrian Ghenie continues his successful career as last week he has sold another two paintings entitled The Collector 4 with 2,65 million pounds and Duchamp’s Funeral with 4,3 million pounds. The auction took place on March 6 at Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Auction in London.

The Collector 4 was created in 2009 and it is a part of a series of 4 which focuses on a collector theme. The painting shows Nazi military leader Hermann Goring on his deathbed. This particular image was created after a photo taken of him after his suicide. Hermann Goring was a Nazi leader who collected over 2,000 stolen artworks.

Duchamp’s Funeral also sold previously in 2014 to a private collector for 1 million pounds. It seems that its value grew and perhaps in a few years it will double again.

Adrian Ghenie is now one of the most important Romanian painters. He has graduated from the Art and Design University in Cluj-Napoca. He has opened two art galleries, one in Cluj-Napoca and one in Berlin. His paintings can be seen at many museums including in Vienna and Los Angeles.
